Bringing The Intentionality Of Product-Solution Fit to Start-up Innovation

Hatch & Match is Hatch's invite-only tech curation programme that directly scouts for the most suitable deep-tech solution to match with a clearly defined challenge.

The core is intentionality of product-solution fit: Distilling challenges through careful framing and analyses, identify winning approaches, and tailored scouting of solutions from our proprietary international networks and database. This is how we align all stakeholders towards pre-defined and mutually agreed upon outcomes, to fast-track their development towards the victory picture.

Programme Key Features

Designed For Precision Matching

Designed for challenge owners who have clearly defined their scope of requirements, Hatch & Match helps cut through the noise of the market and surface only solutions that best fit the challenge and context. Like a key to a lock, by putting the right tech solution in the hands of those who need it most, this programme can unlock the true potential of end-users – one challenge at a time.

Problem-Framing Workshops With End-Users

Define The Right Challenge

Every engagement begins with a deep-dive into understanding the actual challenge at hand. Our analysts sit with all end-users and operational stakeholders that come through our door in problem-framing workshops to uncover root challenges, clarify objectives, and establish a shared definition of success.

These workshops are designed to decouple the root of the challenge from extraneous variables and set aside preset limitations and biases – steps essential to reopen the aperture of possibilities to conduct innovation.

Curated Start-up Scouting

Cutting Through the Noise

A targeted curation and scouting effort ensues after that taps into Hatch’s extensive network in the global innovation ecosystem. Relevant start-up technologies are identified from partner nodes and in-country access points in leading innovation and deep-tech communities across the private sector, academic and research institutions, and government-linked organisations.

Bounded by the defined scope from the problem-framing workshop, Hatch & Match surfaces relevant start-ups via an internal filter process that denoises and identifies both technologies relevant in public safety, and also those with high potential for successful adaptation to the challenge.

Best-fit Start-up Solutions

Targeted Shortlist Of Solutions

A shortlist of three to five of the most relevant and effective start-up technologies will be presented to the end-users and relevant operational stakeholders.

Unlike open innovation where the selection is limited by applications, the invite-only nature of Hatch & Match means each of the shortlisted start-ups is already of high relevance, with more granular decision points attributed to the start-up and its team’s ability to meet the well-defined requirements of the challenge.

Challenge-Solution Matching

Finding The Right Fit

The foundation of Hatch & Match sits within the programme’s ability to bring forth solutions that go beyond a good compromise or a partial match, but in finding the best and right fit. Interviews and internal assessments are in-built into the process after for end-users to down-select to the best fit start-up for final awarding of a place in Hatch & Match.

The proper journey of Hatch & Match begins thereafter: Challenge owners and the start-ups scope the project framing and timeline of up to 12 months, and work together – either remotely or in-person in Singapore – towards the victory picture at the end of the programme.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to participate?

There are no geographical or company size requirements for participation. All invitees must either own the IPs or have a valid license to use the IPs of the technology solution proposed.

What stage should my technology be at?

Hatch & Match looks for deep-tech solutions in reference range of Tech Readiness Levels 4 and above. The key is for the company to have a technology in the form of a working prototype, but untested in the public safety operational environment.

What is the selection criteria?

Invitees will be evaluated on their fit to challenge, novelty of technology, relevant team experience, and business model. The entire selection process is conducted virtually.

Are there cohorts for Hatch & Match?

Hatch & Match runs all year round without being divided into cohorts. Invitees may be invited to participate in it at any time of the year, by emails with either the @thehatchx.com or @txv.sg domains.

Who will conduct the assessment for Hatch & Match?

A panel comprising of Hatch, Home Team challenge owners and tech experts from HTX will evaluate the applications.

Will participants have to give up any equity or IP?

Hatch does not retain any equity or ownership of the solution developed during the programme. Invitees retain full and exclusive ownership of their information and intellectual property rights.

Can an off-the-shelf solution be proposed for Hatch & Match?

  • Invitees offering customisations to existing solutions to meet the related use case would be considered for Dimension X.

  • Invitees offering market-ready products may still get in touch with Hatch to be considered for our other programmes.

What is expected during the programme?

The invitee will be expected to develop a working proof-of-concept by the end of the programme either remotely or in Singapore and conduct an in-person on-site testing in Singapore at the end of the programme.

The non-dilutive prize money will cover all proof-of-concept development costs and travel arrangements with no additional travel allowance being disbursed.

Where will the on-site tests be held?

At the end of Hatch & Match, this proof-of-concept will be tested in Singapore for an in-person session in an operational environment of the challenge owner’s choosing.

How will the information submitted in the application be shared?

The information provided by start-ups in their submission will only be available to the following:

  • Hatch organisers (to manage the submission platform)

  • The selection panel (to evaluate start-up submissions)

  • Hatch’s partners (to look for potential collaborations)

If selected, an invitees proposed solution may be announced in the public domain for the purpose of promoting Hatch programmes.

How will access to potentially sensitive data be managed?

Access to (potentially) sensitive data are handled on a case-by-case basis between the awarded invitee and the challenge owner. Depending on the target outcome, if real data cannot be shared, the challenge owner may request the use of open source or simulated data.

What happens after the programme?

Hatch will provide support and guidance for scaling successful proofs-of-concept from Hatch & Match towards opportunities for operational trials, with the eventual goal of deployment.
